At the Calgary Central Library, once a year, an author comes for 4 months to help other authors with their writings. This year, it was Elisabeth J. Haynes who was here. I met her twice, once for this Writing your life meeting and a second time for her to help me with my book Between the lines.

So, what happened at this meeting?
There were around ten authors who wanted to write a book about our history or a life story. For most people, it was about writing their biography. For me, it was about writing my book Between the lines and another that I want to write in a few tears about a part of my life (I’m not ready to talk about it so I’ll stop here).
Elisabeth is an angel! She gave us lots of advice for writing our life story, I leave you with pictures that say it better than me:

I did the two first exercices and I want to share with you the first one. Here is what I wrote:
« I remember this room, my bedroom, my office, my world. I had set up a huge library there, as long as the wall, as high as the ceiling. It contained thousands of books that made me happy. I didn’t need anything more. Opposite this library, there was my sofa where I liked to rest and read, especially on rainy days, lulled by the sound of drops of water crashing on the balcony. With my blanket over my legs and a nice hot chocolate or tea, it was perfect. Sometimes my rabbit would come and do his monkey act, hopping in front of me, demanding that I accompany him to the ground. I would sit next to him and he would come and lie down right next to me. But if I touched him, he would moan and leave. So, I just appreciated his presence. In this room, I also had a large drawing table where I painted monochromes with watercolors and more raw things with oil paint. And then, less interesting, there was my office, in which I did my papers or wrote my columns on my PC. I spent less time there than on everything else, but I still loved it.
It was my room, it was my universe, it was my world. »
So yes, it was very good to be in this group for this 1h30, what a joy!
